Stem Cell Research

The Secular Medical Forum fully supports embryonic stem cell research – and also the creation of hybrid embryos – because of the possible potential benefits for all those millions of individuals who have, or will develop, illnesses ranging from Alzheimer’s disease to diabetes, and from MND to heart disease. (Adult stem cells have a very limited potential).

The purpose of all medical research is, by its very nature, aimed at increasing our knowledge, realising that there is always much more to be discovered, so that better treatments and care can be provided.

The Forum disagrees with those religious organizations seeking to condemn embryonic stem cell research (and the creation of hybrid embryos) – sometimes, even threatening to excommunicate or penalise the scientists and politicians seeking to develop this very important work.
